Carrot Ranch Literary Community July 19, 2018, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about Fannie Hooe. Although she is a legend in the Kewenaw, feel free to go where the prompt leads.
The Natives knew Fannie Hooe. White people rarely saw the natives who camouflaged themselves among the trees of the forest, but the natives saw her at the lake outside the fort. These natives who had already given one of their own females to a white trapper from the American Fur Company who lived with them and trapped with them and traded furs for guns and horses. The natives needed guns and horses for war parties. A young, native warrior wanted Fannie as an acquisition. Mostly, he wanted the officer’s daughter to get even as retribution for the white invasion.
